Traci Sorell’s We Are Still Here: Native American Truths Everyone Should Know presents readers with a dozen topics like assimilation, allotment, termination, relocation, tribal activism, self-determination, religious freedom, and language revival topics that are specific to the experience of many Native Americans.

Some are nonfiction books about arctic animals like polar bears and narwhals or where animals go when their habitats are blanketed in snow and ice.

Some are stories of Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. I chose a variety of titles for the month of December that creates a balanced approach… This is NOT a countdown to Christmas, and as much as you may be tempted to change all the links to your favorite Christmas stories, please be mindful that not all kids celebrate Christmas and even if your whole class does, this is about exploring beyond Christmas.
